Dingwall Trust

Dingwall Trust is a child and youth community care residence in Papatoetoe, Auckland, that supports children and young people from ages 2—17 who need care and protection away from home. For over 70 years the residence has provided family-style living, support staff and live-in caregivers to kids in need. A couple of months ago we caught word that the chicken coop at Dingwall Trust had seen better days and was in need of replacement. In situations like these, we know who to call… The Almighty Architectural Mod Squad of course!

Interior architects Mijntje and Gerrick from Auckland’s coolest hospitality design practice, CTRL Space, and Hamish from the fantastic Architectus know more than a thing or two about building and beauty. So a couple of Saturdays ago we rallied up the team, loaded the cars with tools, gumboots, Crumb sambos and Almighty refreshments and headed to Dingwall. Dingwall’s legendary Garden Coordinator, Guy, gave us various bits and bobs to upcycle and together we built an awesome Chicken Palace for the residence hens.

Checking out the new digs.

The old chicken coop.

Good on ya boys.

Some solid elbow grease from Gerrick.

Dingwall’s beautiful vege garden.

Smoko and delicious sambos from our friends at Crumb.

Finishing touches on Mijntje’s Danish-inspired chicken shelter.

And voila! Just as the sun came out.

Happy healthy chooks.
